Unexpected Mail and Xen Server Downtimes

At around 8am we noticed (different) hardware issues with our SMTP server wiggis as well with one of our Xen hosting servers. This also affected the IDL license server. The problems have been temporarily solved and since approx. 10:30am both systems are working again as before. Expect though maintenance downtimes for those services within the next week.

Hardware failure – again

Today at 09:50 a crucial server died in our HIT server room. It took us about 20 min to move the affected services to other machines, during which time most of our machines weren't usable. We're sorry for the inconvenience. We're working hard to get rid of this fault-prone hardware.

Mail server maintenance downtime on Thursday late afternoon

On Thursday, 24th of September 2009 starting at 5pm there will be a maintenance downtime of the D-PHYS mail server. Estimated duration is one hour. During the downtime, the mail server will not be able to receive or send e-mails nor will it be possible to log in via IMAP, POP3 or SSH. Update, 6pm: Everything back to normal. (more…)

Maintenance downtime of D-PHYS mail server on Friday, 5pm

For kernel security updates and other maintenance work, there will be a downtime of the e-mail server of the ETH Department of Physics from 17:00 on for about one hour.
