The Update MS06-040 is very critical, it should be installed immediately, including rebooting the system.

There is already an exploit code around. If this update is missing, it is possible to gain complete access to a system over the network without any action from the user at the computer.

Your computer is at danger even if you are using Windows XP with the firewall turned on and when it has file and print sharing active. Even if the sharing is only enabled for the local network this is a problem in our environment as you can not trust other computers in the own network.

Some more informations can be found in the Homeland Security: Fix your Windows article at c|net news.com.

    bye
    Fabian
