  Another Kernel Update
Linux Posted by Elmar Heeb on Sunday January 09, @08:51AM
from the kernel-gets-a-review dept.
Paul Starzetz continues to review the Linux kernel and has found another bug in the elf loader. This means we have to update all our Linux computers. We will reboot the client workstations on Monday morning January 10 and the servers on Tuesday morning January 11.

Update: Mon, 07:45, all clients are OK
Update: Tue, 07:00, all servers are OK

An exploit for this vulnerability is already available. It allows a local user to gain root privileges. If you are responsible for a Linux workstation you should consider upgrading to kernel version 2.4.29-rc1 unless you are the only user anyway.

While it is a good sign that the Linux kernel gets such a thorough review we have to expect that we need to upgrade a few times in the comming months. We apologize for the inconvenience.
