Keep your data on a safe place
Tip of the week Posted by Beat Rubischon on Friday April 26, @03:48PM
from the no-chance-for-data-loss dept.
You have worked for days and nights. You are tired. With the last mouseclick - you think you are printing your document - the file disappears forever ...
To protect you from such accidents, we offer all members of the Department of Physics space on our fileservers. You simple connect to the server from your workstation and put your data on it.

Every User has her/his own homedirectory with a fixed amount of space - so called quota. You may check your diskspace in your Account Information.

Backup of those files is done every night and kept over three months. In an emergency case, send a E-Mail to the IT Support Group or give us a call. We'll do our best to recover the lost files.

Access to our servers is possible from any computer having a network connection. See our Instructions.

For special workstations and servers, the IT Services of ETH offers Netbackup, an easy way of saving and recovering data. Once installed, everything works automagically.
